La Graciosa Island, Canary Islands The smallest of the inhabited Canary Island with a length of about 8km and the width of around 4km.
Graciosa Island, Isla Graciosa or Spanish for graceful, la Graciosa is a volcanic island in the Canary Islands archepelego belonging to Spain, about 2km north of Lanzarote across the strait of Río at position reference 29°14' N, 13°30' W. part of the UNESCO registered Biosphere Reserve of the Parque Natural del Archipiélago Chinijo. The main village is in the southeastern part of the island with houses circling the harbor which has twin piers and a yacht marina in the bay. The only access to the island is by way of a short ferry crossing from Orzola on Lanzarote to the harbour in the village capital of Graciosa, the crossing usually takes just over half an hour. Tourism is La Graciosa's main industry along with fishing.
Motor vehicles are limited to a few licensed vehicles for special purposes, mainly old Land Rovers, since the roads are unpaved volcanic sand and very bad.
Bicycles can be hired from the village plaza. The tallest mountain is Aguja Grandes rising to just 266m ASL at the summit.
